Alright! So, I don't know much about this movie coming out today. In fact for a second there, I forgot the title as I began writing this. I have not read the book. (books?) What I have heard (through conversations around me, advertisements I have seen, and a few blog posts I have read) I want to scream out , don't go there! The details I do know about 50 Shades of Grey, I do not even want to write about. It would only draw more attention to things that I do not need in my life, nor do I want to help add anything negative to anyone's imagination.Instead my desire is to show you what love is.
Here is a list of things that it is not or does not do:
It is not selfish.
It is not controlling/dominant.
It is not abusive.
It does not dishonor.
It does not tear down.
This movie is not a love story.
I will keep 'the what love is not' brief and now put my focus on what love is.
1 Corinthians 13 describes love perfectly. In God's word you will find many things that will help us in our daily walks.
When we look at God's will for love, marriage and sex, it looks very different from what media is showing us.
We live in a world that is aiming to normalize, what may ultimately destroy us or do damage in our hearts and minds. This usually happens slowly enough, that we don't even realize what is happening.
When you think of love in terms of being kind, patient, gentle, protective, (from a Biblical perspective, between husband and wife) it gives you a very different view on sex, than what the media is now showing us. We miss out on what is good because we do not want God's will for our mind, body and spirit. Perhaps, one day when WE (my husband AND I) are ready to share more about our marriage journey, I will go into this some more. Today I just want to say, marriage was meant to be a beautiful, precious and sacred commitment. Sexual abuse destroys it and is not an exciting adventure, so why on earth promote it and encourage fornication as well?
I did not write this post with much detail or even with great inspiration, but I do hope it was enough to have you question what I am saying and seeking truth for your lives.
If you decide to go ahead with watching it, I pray you will decide, YES, there is a better plan for you out there. I pray you will begin to see that you are worth far more than what you feel you are worth. I pray the love of God will stir up in your hearts and you will have a desire to seek HIS love story for you.
If you feel you are not worth more than what is being falsely glamorized today, open your hearts by starting in the book of John.
John 8:12 12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

I think you shared your thoughts with admirable grace in addition to being uncompromising on your position. I know that with divisive topics it is very easy to start sharing opinions that are extremely judgmental and condemning because we feel so strongly about it. Good job with this!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Having you say that confirms I said what I needed to.
